[V8] Cash for Clunkers

I've been pndering this all day trading in one of my Shop V8 quattros that fulfill the title/insurance requirements and have come to the conclusion that it would be at rather imprudent move...

The only car I would even consider would be a VW at minimum a Jetta Sportwagen Diesel or a maximum of a Passat CC. However the Passat's combined mileage only warrants a 3500 dollar rebate. I have test driven both in in the past few months and although German they are not near the build qualtity of the V8.

I then looked at the other cars in the same price range and all came up lacking, including the toyota Camry, Nissan Altima, and a Honda who's make I forgot . No Gas non hybrid SUV would qualify and even some of the hybrid's wouldn't qualify either. All of these cars essentially felt like tin cans with wheels.

Then I considered that once I drove off the lot that car would instantly been devalued by at least the amount of the Cash for clunkers program would offer meaning the trade in was essentially useless.

Then I researched the amount of pollution, resources, and energy it would take to manufacture a new car versus keep the V8's on the road and the V8 came ahead on this as well.

Add in the whole car payment and full coverage insurance costs and it's pretty much moot at that point.

Unless your a college kid with a V8 that runs better when turned off and you want to jump into some $12,000 - $15,000 lunch box with wheels I wouldn't give this idea another though.
