I found the same thing. Pulled my pump as the check valve was bad,
pumped worked great, was always noisy, really quit clean. Debated just
replacing check valve, however With 175K on the pump, decided to
replace. New one is quieter, for now.

When I pulled the pump on V8 #2 because it was ridiculously loud, I
found....nothing. No "lint" on the filter screen or anything like that,
and a visual inspection of the inside of the tank showed it to be
remarkably clean. Put the pump back in, and it's still ridiculously loud
for a reason I'll never know. Ultimately, my solution to this will be to
turn the stereo up.
