[V8] Fuel pump removal questions, Strainer removal?

It's been a while since I did this but it was the main intake port of for
the fuel pump. I think I remember it being on the side, but it makes more
sense that it was on the bottom. Nevertheless, it was a small circle with a
screen and on top of the screen was a little blanket of lint that I was able
to just lift off.

My symptoms were a noisy fuel pump after climbing from 6000 to 8500 feet on
a 55mph+ highway, usually only when outside temps were higher as in late
spring, summer, and early fall.

I already had a new pump to put in but after I removed the lint from the
screen, my fuel pump was no longer noisy.

So, what is this little dime-sized inlet you speak of? Curious, I didn't
notice that. I need to get photo's up. I had a ton of silt right
underneath the Fuel pump screen. This is likely my problem, but its so
difficult to get out, I managed to use a magnet to get most of it out of
there, but it is only a third or so of what is in there.

As well, on the very large plastic holder for the fuel pump i removed and
brought to the top of the fuel tank. I noticed that there is a small orange
like flap with a rubber flapper valve. but this had fallen off, and that
might be an issue. Anyway, just kind of pissed at the car right now, we
aren't talking right now. _______________________________________________
