COLD water works best. Ice isn't a bad choice either.
It's very frustrating, but it shortens the time between restarts until
you can get it to the garage. Ask me how I know...

Yup. What Kneale said.

In an emergency you can ride around with a 2 liter bottle filled with
water. You can dump some of the water along the block at the driver's
side distributor and it will speed up the 'recovery' process.

You need a new Engine Speed Sender (077905381A). It reads the teeth of
the flywheel and lets the ECU know the engine is running. Without a
signal, the ECU turns off the spark. In an emergency, if it's working
well
enough to allow a restart after slight cooling, you could replace it
with
the Ignition Reference Sender (077905381), which only has to give a
signal
to permit a start. They're together behind a heat shield in the middle
of
the driver side exhaust plumbing. Very i
nconvenient spot to get to.

Hey Audifans, While driving from UP Mich. to Milwaukee, to go to a
wedding in upper-state NY , my V8 Q kept shutting down . I would have
to
wait 7-12 min. before it would re-start . What I noticed was the gages
were all fine except the tach would drop out and i'm coasting
.....re-start would not happen when trying for 7-12 min. of engine
being
off...The stopping of motor seemed to be every 45 min. or so the first 3
times..By the time I was 25 miles from Milwaukee the old girl was
turning
off every 4 miles .I parked the 1990 V8Q before heading into the city
and
had my daughter come get us. What would be causing this to happen ???
NEED
HELP with diagnosis ,,,Thanks in advance Rick inthe UP
