can you fully remove the adjuster screws and wrap them in teflon tape?

Yes, I know what you mean ... nothing worse than having the adjusting
mechanisms freeze.  You have to be a bit careful about using grease 
because
it may collect dirt and grime and create more problems than it solves.
Perhaps a very light coating of a light grease might help over the long
term.  I'd probably use something like bike chain lube with Teflon ... 
but I
don't have BTDT on that ...
