... I too considered the A6 4.2 ... for me one big negative was the
automatic ... I know it is not so limiting for many on this list. I've
known a couple people who have purchased A6 4.2 sedans, but I don't know
anyone who kept it for more than a few months. I'm sure some of it is that
most people aren't "Audi fans" and weren't familiar with the love/hate
relationship people can have with Audis ... but I've grown to suspect that
these cars have weak transmissions and are prone to the electrical gremlins
cars from early in the millennium seem to suffer. My other concern is that
the 4.2 seems to be a bit shoehorned into the engine compartment ... which
might make it more difficult for DIY service. Do your homework carefully,
and if you are convinced that the car will meet your needs go for it!
I know other V8 listers have picked up S8s for a quite reasonable amount,
especially given MSRP ... not sure how this would fit your needs, but for a
successor to the V8Q the S8 seems to me to be more in line than an A6 4.2.
If I were to go for an A6 model, I'd probably lean toward the 2.7T ...

When I told you Audi maniacs I neede to get an Audi from this decade a few
listers suggested an A6 with the 4.2. This actually sounds like a great
suggestion and I've been looking for a couple of months now. There's one for
sale with some cool extras on it but one of these extras are H&K coil-overs.
I thought I'd heard on the list that these will usually stiffen up the ride
significantly. How about it, any experience with these. Oh and the reason
that I don't just wander over and take it for a drive is the car's out of
state. Thanks, William
