And yet I'm sure owning the RS6 means you're used to suspension quirks, eh?

Don't see why more people just go for a bilstein PSS on that one.

All this talk of nice big cars reminds me I'm still a little out classed and a little out of place, hah. My mazdaspeed is the most expensive car I've ever purchased and 17K was hard to justify, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. Rock solid, zero issues and very low maintence even with all the work done to it.

I'd be going for different cars in that range of 30 to 40, mainly used awd porches, RS4..etc. Ah maybe one day.

I have owned both of these vehicles.

The 2003 Phaeton V8 I owned through a winter, ownership only 7 months. Traded it on the now daily driver '07 GTI. The main reasons to sell was the mileage and the wife saying "It feels so big on the road". It was a fine fully capable Quattro vehicle. I remember driving to DIA on E-470 (Expensive tollroad east of Denver) one snowy day and felt that this thing is "Rock Solid" at 60 went to 70 and went to 80 mph. I did not waver one in the 4 inches of snow and slush. Purchased in November 2006 for $36K and sold July 2007 $30k .

Just the other day while driving the 2006 VW Touareg V10 TDI I was thinking this reminds me a lot like our Phaeton. The TDI exhaust smell is so similar to a chlorine pool smell. I love it. The DTI is a fine powerplant that I rarely get to drive, OK Weekends. It is torque(y), slight turbo lag, but once she is spinning just keeps on pulling. I call it the "The highest performance Diesel SUV ever to be imported to the US." It has every creature comfort you could ask for. Although with each of these vehicles I have experienced electrical and Air suspension issues. I would get one with extended CPL warranty or one that is still under warranty. Purchased April 2009 $32k with 29K miles.

I've driven the Phaeton, reminded me of a 'nicer' S8, but the S8 has a
better feel, IMO. The better machine though, is the Toureg v10 tdi.
Much of the phaeton running gear sits on that truck, and you get
530ft/lbs of twin diesel torque to boot. Fellow ex-v8, LT1Q, and
20vturq owner Rob Dupree bought one of these monsters. I read the
dealer service intro manual cover to cover, the tdi is the phaeton with
a truck body.
