[V8] Brake Servo & Sticking Throttle

The cruise control problem is easy to rule out ... remove the rod that goes
to the throttle linkage from the vacuum motor ... if the throttle still
sticks the CC recall isn't going to change anything ...

On the brake servo ... did you verify that the brake pedal was completely at
the top of travel? Make sure someone hasn't adjusted the pedal so that it
prevents the linkage to the servo from returning all the way to the stop.

It should be possible to tell the difference between brake fluid and the
hydraulic fluid that the servo uses. I would be skeptical that the flow
from the return line on the brake servo is due to some leak in the brake
master cylinder. If you had so large a leak in the brake master cylinder
you would definitely notice the brake fluid level in the reservoir dropping.

Well I just got done doing the test from the tech manual and it looks like
the brake servo is bad. Apparently it's not supposed to drip out of the
line, much less pour like a faucet.

So I'll be replacing the servo first thing. Does it sound like I should
also replace the master cylinder while I'm there? Or should I do the servo
and see if it fixes it and if not, then replace the MC? They don't look
terribly difficult to replace.

As far as the sticking throttle cable, it seems there's a recall on a cruise
control bushing that might cause the trouble I'm having. I have the little
recall notice card (it came with the car), so I'll probably have that done
as soon as I get the brakes sorted out.
