[V8] New problem - v8 tb

Ok, new problem, sorry.  Still working on the v6, just waiting on the service manual to arrive.  Anyway, On the v8q - did a timing belt service, all rollers, waterpump, conti belt.  Would have a 'slap' for lack of a better term, at various times.  Took it all back apart, replaced damper, replaced belt with OE audi belt.  Slap seems to have gone away, but before I buttoned it up, I noticed that the belt rides toward the back of the cam pulleys?  I know this because you can see the shiny part in the front where the old belt ran for 60k.  I assume it is a mis-alignment of an idler pulley and I'm thinking it may be causing the noise because it looks like it may be hitting the water pump housing in one place.  I tried checking any pulley or mounting surface for wear, but can't find any problems.  I also bought a rebuilt audi water pump, could they have bored the shaft wrong during re-build?  Any BTDT?
