[V8] V8 Transmission Dipstick

It has been possible in the past to buy a dipstick. I hope that is still
the case. I was able to find one in a car at a junkyard quite awhile ago.
Also, one can ensure correct transmission fluid level while at the same time
refreshing the fluid somewhat by simply draining the trans pan and adding
one gallon of your favorite ATF through the dipstick tube.
I have done this many times variously on all of my V8s to both check fluid
level, refresh fluid content, and flush fluid over time.
I have been using Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF when I want to flush the system.
But on the V8 I bought to be an engine donor for my 5spd, I just bought a
gallon jug of the stuff at Advance Auto to get some fresh juice in there and
ensure fluid level as it was going into limp mode when cold.

How in the world did I miss this? V8's don't come with a tranny dipstick.
Any suggestions on checking the correct level of 1990 V8 automatic
transmission fluid?
What's next -- cars without fuel gauges?
Thanks,
Brad
