[V8] Warning from the Audigods!

The company that rebuilt the transmission in my first V8 said that the
transmission had also been used in big body BMW's and Jaguar XJ cars from
the late eighties into the nineties. Probably BMW 735's are likely, and
perhaps 745's also. Jags, I would have no idea.

I'm actually going to look around for some info on the tranny. Its a good
idea. Does anyone know the exact ZF model number, and which year 5-series
BMW's used the same trans?

Yea, taking a valve body apart isn't the tough part, putting it back
together is. Honestly, I've done 3 chevy 700r4 auto's and I wouldn't touch
a valve body without a diagram of where all the balls and check valves go.
You can really eff it up if it doesn't go back in. You could always take a
picture though.

Petroleum jelly is a great tool for putting them back together. You put
some in where the ball is supposed to go and it doesn't move around or fall
out after that. very usefull.

I haven't had a V8 auto apart, so I can't say for sure. However, if it's
like many of the automatics of that era, it comes out fairly easily, as you
will see when you remove the transmission pan. Then, it's just a matter of
taking all the valves and springs out, cleaning everything, and putting it
all back together.

Perhaps someone else has had one apart in the past (Dave Head comes to
mind)??
