[V8] Toyota UA & recall

I suspect the level of interface is several layers above the hardware, IOW
it is not at the "electromechanical" level. Nowadays most cars run CAN bus
to everything and let the generators and consumers of the information work
things out. The accelerator assembly probably sends out a percent throttle
signal, perhaps with "idle" and "WOT" indications.
It is the fact that everyone is claiming "Mission Accomplished" via a rather
simple change to the parts from a single manufacturer (CTS) that causes me
to believe we haven't heard the end of it yet. There are reports of failure
on vehicles built before CTS was even manufacturing the part which is in the
recall. I found a good article in the LA Times a few days ago ... here it
is:

That's a good point... I have been wondering if they use the same gas pedal
on all the vehicles involved.
I have heard that the recall involves a metal part that is added to the gas
pedal somehow. I suppose it is possible for different designs of gas pedal
to share the same electromechanical interface with the software in such a
way that it fails in the same manner.
