Ha! You make it sound like I'm always taking off the inner door panels
of Type 44s. Not so.

I've achieved success. Sort of.

I got the inner door panel off. Lots off connections that aren't obvious
until you're pulling at the panel.

I removed the circlip and pushed the window up into the closed position.
I've got some wire ties holding it up.

I removed the motor (in case that was the culprit).

I reattached the inner door panel. That went easier than I thought. A few
good photos and some penciling let me align the bolts back where they
started at. I got a nice door seal seam. But...

A few issues, to be fixed later:

a) I think I got the door lock/opener rod on the wrong side of a vertical
metal strut. It's tough to pull open/closed.
b) When I closed the door to test it, it was in the locked position. I had
to crawl in the other side and fiddle with things to get it unlocked.
c) Even if you leave all the electrical connections undone, don't forget
the vacuum line, or you'll hear a humming. The vacuum pump was running,
trying to build vacuum with a hose removed. D'oh! I think it shuts itself
off automatically, 'cuz I was ready to unplug it, but by the time I got
around to the other side and unlocked the doors manually, the pump had
stopped.
d) I put a baggie around the opened regulator, to catch anything that
may fall. A few zip ties through it in strategic places is holding that
in place.

In sum, I now have a car with a window that is sealed from the elements
(and the neighborhood kids). I'll have to re-do the panel to re-work the
door lock rod, but it should be easier then next time with everything
removed. And when that is done, I'll have to put all the trim pieces
back on. But I think I'll test the motor and if needed, source a
replacement part before I do all that.

I have a bunch of pictures that I'll be using to put together a KB page
to make it easier for the next guy.

Vielen Dank Sie alle.
