[V8] subframe bushings

I have over 220K on my 200tq, and I just did all the sub-frame mounts. Mine
were so bad that one of them fell out when I dropped the sub-frame.
Mine were pretty clear that they needed to be replaced; dry-rotted and
cracked rubber, apparent deterioration, and the sub-frame showed evidence of
slippage. Of all the records I had, it was pretty clear that at least three
of them had never been replaced.
The parts are not terribly expensive, and any fair wrench can do the work,
but it does require an alignment afterward since most of the steering is
bolted to the sub-frame. I did mine on a rack, but I know of guys that have
done it in the driveway on jackstands.
In my opinion, marginal sub-frame mounts are as dangerous as poor suspension
parts. My justification for this is the degree of difficulty that is
required to keep the car on track. Steering is sloppy, alignment is gone,
and if those mounts let go, it's all toast under there; lower control arms,
tie-rods and ends, probably the axles, maybe even the sway bar, to say
nothing of the whole damn car if you wreck it.
HTH,
Brian

Subject: [V8] subframe bushings
I am wondering how many of your folks who have high mileage V8's or better
still, high mileage 200 Avant experience have had to replace subframe
bushings?
I know a guy who thinks he might need them, but also has classic
shock/strut/strut bearing noise, which I think is his entire issue.
Comments?
TIA,
Roger
