[V8] CD player

We have two solutions for two different cars.

In my wife's 100CS Avant we have a Nakamichi head unit that is plugged into
the original Bose system. It works exceptionally well. The head unit was
purchased while we were traveling with the car just after buying it in 2001,
and if memory serves, they made the connections to the Bose system using the
pre-amp out connectors on the Nakamichi head unit.

The Bose amps had been rebuilt by the seller before I got my car a year and
a half ago. In order to play CDs on a trip we took last spring, I got a
cassette connector from a lister here, and put a couple of Velcro patches on
the top of the dash. I had an old Sony walkman that was hiding in the
bottom of the closet in my study, and I took that, plugged it in to the
cigarette lighter, slapped the Walkman on the dash, shoved the cassette
thingy into the cassette slot of the Audi/Bose head unit in the dash and
turned everything on.

I was amazed that it wall a) worked, and b) the enormous sound that came
blasting out of the speakers in the car....not sure I have ever heard the
Ride of the Valkyries quite that way before.

Now, I will admit that this setup might not be quite 'cool' enough for a
youngster, but it works great and was cheap. Best of all, with all the gear
in place, it really still does not look like the sound system that was
stolen from a cheap New Orleans whore house, which is what most replacement
head units look like in the dash.

Another side benefit is that tending the system gives my wife something to
do instead of yelling at me while I am trying to hold the V8 under
ninety-five on the Interstate.....
