[V8] starter fail

The starter in my pearl car does this frequently as well. It seems like
there's a switch under the shift console that sometimes doesn't engage
properly, which allows the starter to spin, but not engage the ring gear. I
usually try wiggling the shifter while at the same time hitting the brake
(when I hit the brake I can feel something mechanical move under the
shifter). It usually solves the problem, though I'm not sure what it is I'm
doing. It might just be fixing itself and my actions are only to make me
feel like I'm helping.
