You can replace the electrical part of the switch fairly easily. There is a
small screw, almost like a set screw which holds the electrical switch in
the cylinder. If you have a replacement switch you can see the tab this
screw goes into ... if you orient the contacts to match the switch in place
it will give you a clue on where to look for the screw.
I had to replace the lock cylinder on one of my cars ... this is
considerably more involved, and requires making measurements on the casting
and drilling the location that allows access to the release clip. The most
significant thing I found during this process was that the reason the lock
cylinder breaks is a result of the electrical switch breaking from the
stress created by an internal coil spring. When the switch housing breaks
it places lateral stress on the mechanical switch and causing it to break.
I found two different switch designs, one appears to have addressed this
issue. I have pictures I took ... just haven't found a place to post. I
will see how difficult it would be to write up something with pictures in
the audifans wiki system ...

Hi all, I'm in the process of replacing the ignition switch on my V8. I
can't seem to figure out how the ignition assembly comes out. The ignition
assembly is connected to a horizontal bar that goes to the steering column.
Is there a way to get the switch off the back of the tumbler without
removing the entire assembly? (that seems like it would be too easy) Also,
is there a DIY guide out there for this? (also seems like that would be too
easy) Thanks.
