By shooting eather into the car it's not going to magically cool the sensors......know what I mean?!

You'd supposed to c 1k at the sensor. Those sensors are pretty specific as far as to what there supposed to b.

The car is a 90 with 105k. I have tried the water trick and it worked once, the second time it was dark and it didn't work, but maybe I missed it. The car has no codes. I make sure I use the car in such away that I don't shut it off unless I have time to either use the water or ether. If I have any other type of driving to do I take a different car (a4). I'll try an omn test when I have time, it's pretty down by the sensors when it won't start.
  Thanks for your help.

what year is your car ? (my 93 had a speedo sensor* that went in my car causeing some interesting issues 89-91 have a sensor but it is different to the 92-94 sensor )

well there are few things you could do to eliminate your ref sensors as the source of the problem .
  -Pull codes .
-Take a Ohm meter reading of the sensors when you get a no start.
-pour cold water over both the sensors.

an Audi 5000CD qt sensor would cost me 84 CDN or 82.00 usd

  hope this helps . superdave

   * sensor is found on the right flange of the transmission
