I hope i get this right, but apologise if i get it wrong
Broken Handbrake bolt. I've had this on my 85ur, and almost on my V8 only this week. They use the same basic components and design on both cars.
The cause of the first broken bolt is uncertain, but whoever broke it tried a weld. and it didn't hold for long. The weld was hidden inside the yoke (the assymetric item that the cables hook up to) There is a lot of strain on this bolt at times, and a good fix is needed. preferably a new rod/bolt. I think the rods may well be available, but I used a different method to fix the rod on my car.
I shortened the remaining bolt, and ran a thread die (6mm) down the shaft so that i could then fit something like a turnbuckle to attach a length of stud to the remaining rod, to extend it again. The turnbuckle sits safely up near the protective gaiter, but doesn't impinge on the action.
As a side note. It's worth looking at the cables and the yoke. I almost damaged my bolt because i inadvertantly got the yoke on the wrong way around. It's assymetic because the cables are different lengths, by about 25mm or so. Long cable on the left, short on the right. If the yoke is fitted the wrong way abround, then when you tension it all up, it pulls to the side as it only gets tension on one side, and bends the bolt.

> Okay so if any of you have seen the adjuster for the parking brake on a v8 you know its a PITA to even think about. Well after replacing the cables i started adjusting the nut for almost an hour because i had limited tools at the time. One thing led to another and i ended up with half of the adjuster bolt in my hand along with the nut. So after being defeated by a bolt worth the change in my seats what is my next move? Weld an extension onto whats left? Rip it apart and replace? Part it out?(jk)
