A couple of thoughts here... at 1.5in drop, you will likely run into bumpsteer problems. Specifically, at 1.5in lowered you can't get the camber far enough positive, so it will tramline, especially with wider wheels and tires. There is a homebrew mod on the Scar list (also available at ECS Tuning) that allows more positive camber adjustment via redrilled camber plates. Secondly, a 1.5in drop will take you out of a stock length shock, and put you into a sport length shock. The regular and turbo gas struts have a longer body than most of the other aftermarkets, so I doubt you will notice any difference between the two.
The last thing I'd do is major suspension work to make it 'look' better. The primary directive should be performance to this type of mod. As a rule, a drop of .5in is within the type44/D chassis cars suspension geometry design for not creating a bumpsteer problem. Beyond that, the compromise to looks, becomes a compromise to suspension geometry. I have run full coil overs on several type 44 and v8's over the years. I now run turbo gas shocks and 255/40 17's, and it seems the wheels and tires fill out the wheel wells just fine.

Subject: [V8] Lowering thought
Gentlemen,
I have been contemplating lowering my front suspension. I'm not a
'modification' type of guy normally, but my front end on this v8 just seems
about 1" to 1-1/2" too high. The rear seems perfect, the wheels sit just right
in the wheel wells, but the front seems like it is up on a jackstand. Someone
mentioned getting Boge hydraulic struts instead of the turbo gas - saying that
would lower it to original highth and ride? Any experiance on that? I'm
thinking about cutting the spring perch and dropping it about 1-1/2". Just a
thought, what do you guys think. Thanks.
