Re: Microsoft, from a software development point of view... I wonder if a
"mac running native windows7" is truly a valid test. Merely playing devil's
advocate, no intention to support Windows or malign Mac.
Re: the lender thing... absolutely all due empathy etc but... still... you
can't always believe evertything you're told. If it didn't feel right... to
the extent that the question was asked... "do people really spend 80% of
their monthly income on a house payment?" Is there not some responsibility
on the part of the party who went ahead on the advise of someone who stood
to benefit from the advancement of the transaction???
I'm just saying...

OK Mike and Bryan - you guys are cracking me up -
On the microsoft thing, I will buy the first shell. I just spent the weekend
writing three identical functionality programs demonstrating "threads" in
windows, MacOS X, and Linux, using Java, C, and C++ (on windows). Windows
was by far the slowest performing. This was all done on my mac running
native windows7, OSX, and Linux FDC13 - so the hardware remains the same for
all tests. That is hardly my reason for detesting the Redmond Empire though.
That goes back about 20 years. (test results - processing about 60 megabytes
of data in about 20 files resulted in times of about 5 seconds for Mac and
Linux (c and java) and about 10 seconds on windows7)
On the lender thing, I was most definitely coerced, pushed, tempted, and
lied to by a lender to buy more house than I could afford. I specifically
asked the lender - "do people really spend 80% of their monthly income on a
house payment?" to which she very sincerely said yes. There are plenty of
gullible and just plain stupid people out there who would easily fall for
this scam. It is not the governments fault that people are greedy - but it
is their job to pick up the pieces and try to make it all better. I don't
have a solution, but not regulating the industry has thus far not worked out
so well. Maybe a little over regulation is in order for a while.
