[V8] Chips and computers

And Ron, honestly, If I still owned my V8 5 speed and had the extra time to sit down and study the wiring diagrams and flow charts, I could probably figure that out and share with the world just to piss off the people who think they know it all......Alas, I don't have the beast anymore, so I hope someone can figure it out and share it with others.

Scott sounds like one of the ass munches that are over on Audizine that I read their posts and laugh my ass off at their utter stupidity, so unwilling to help others and always flaming other people. That's why, no matter what, I'll still do V8 timing belt jobs for dirt cheap, just to undercut the "guru's" out there....I just love pissing people off, that's all. So, any of Scott's customer's out there that want a quality timing belt job done for the best price ever, hit me up. Maybe we can work something out. I have great references on here.

Cheers and enjoy! And Ron, Want to go in business together?????? Call me sometime!

Kyle
(Another "guru" that has forgotten more about automotive theory than most of you have ever known)

And the "self proclamed GURU" who first told me this was Keith Tackett....I think u can agree that he knows a little something about this stuff. I'm sure he wouldn't have led me (which resulted in countless others running the same setup) down the wrong path.

> Maybe Cavallo is willing to share, as a rule I don't. Not to be rude, I fix problems on cars for a living, which makes me selfish to 'freeware'. My point to posting in this thread? A lot of folks bring forth answers to problems that 'can/do work'. Cavallo's post was dead nuts on in identifying 'how' urban legends come to these forums. *An* answer is just that, there are a lot of folks here that eventually convince others 'an' answer becomes 'the' answer. Which then follows a false predicate, tangentially creating self-proclaimed gurus.

> The 3.6 computer harness and ecu 'can' be used on a 4.2 5 speed conversion. I claim that the 4.2 computer harness and ecu can be used on a 4.2 5 speed conversion as well. I also claim anyone that touts the timing is 'better' in the 3.6 tabling creates more myth and urban legend. And to Cavallo's point, backs up to looking at what created the myth in the first place.

> Good post! I too have used the autobox motronic in a 5speed car. WRT the 4.2 auto v manual... Many have said the 3.6 motronic has 'better' timing tables in it. That's really not the case looking at the code IMO. Cavallo hit the nail on the head, as 'without' the shift input from the trans ecu, the 4.2 motronic will retard timing. The 4.2 also uses a potentiometer for the throttle instead of the 3.6 WOT switch. This also affects tabling in the 4.2 ecu. IME, both issues are easily addressed, as well as the revised idle issue on the 4.2 motronic.
>
> Self proclaimed 'gurus' also make me chuckle. There are very few folks that seem to understand the differences between the 3.6 motronic ecus and the benefits of the 4.2 motronic ecu. There was a lot of chatter speaking to rewiring 4.2 5 speed engine conversion with the 3.6 harness a couple years ago on the QW forums. A hack that 'can' work, never did understand doing all that retrofit work, as the 4.2 motronic is a better box IMO/E
