Gents
I have nothing to prove anymore, maybe Steve's reference to 'old fogey'. But, I'm a constructive guy by nature, and believe in can-do projects. The concept and much of the development of the LT1Q was from my original design and hands-on urging. I've had conversations with Keith Tackett for many years, still do, he's still a very good friend of mine. I've helped him on many of his first v8 conversions years ago, including spec' ing and sourcing the hi lift cams that found their way into Mark W beast. Full coil overs on a type 44, designed and built a solution to the triangulated swaybar issue, back in 1995. Big Reds with 335mm rotors onto that same chassis back in 1995, before it was ever accepted practice. All the results of study and desire to strive for 'better' solutions to improving Audi performance.
I thoroughly enjoy reading, hearing and driving 'how' people addressed a wide variety of issues with audi conversions. I tend to jump in only when I read 'a' solution becomes 'the' absolute solution. My 'service' in addressing the 3.6 harness/ecu restring vs the 4.2, was years ago on the QW forum. That's 'a' solution to the 4.2 5 speed conversion. A person can do that 10 times and it 'will' work. I advocate that forum defense 'accepted' practice, tends to squash going after 'other' solutions to the same problem. Given the 4.2 ecu as I understand it to work, a different solution could be 'better' than the accepted solution to date. Enter Cavallo's post, and my btdt.
At the end of the day, it's not 'how' or 'who' told you to do what. It's what you do with what you have experienced doing it... I could care less if anyone else found the same answers I did, especially regarding my opinion on 4.2 conversions retrofitting 3.6 harnesses. I rarely 'give back' in free information to forums. I prefer to give back by working every Teen Driving clinic I can, hosting the instructors at my home afterwords (just 2 days ago), teaching high performance driving, being Eventmaster and co-coordinator for Steamboat Ice Driving. I'm not a GTG kinda guy, as I bore easily.
I work on Audis for a living, and have almost 20 years now, from ho-hum to full race spec. I am no guru. It's my day job, that fuels my passion for Quattros. Luckily for many, I have not lost my desire to creatively study 'accepted practice', possibly finding new solutions in the process. Bottom line: We need more Cavallo's, in approach and practice
Cheers

Subject: [V8] ... and being constructive
To steal part of Jack's Subject line .
...So . let's try to stick to the old adage . if you can't say anything
constructive, don't say anything at all.
Thanks!
