Hello Ed,
I'll try to recall most of the important stuff. You can search the archives for "running issues"
When I first started with isssues, the car would idle good. Cold start ok.
Buy it would not accelerate. The exhaust would heat up. The cat light would flash. We tore down the front of the eng, thinking it was timing. Everything was lined up. The tb was in good condition.
Only threw the 2113. So changed the dist. No change. Changed MAF. Coolant temp. switch. No change. We started pulling connectors. Knock sensor. ISV. Still only 1 code 2113.
So we changed the ecu. Turns out the original was bad. Instantly a new code. 2231.
So finally(we shouldn't have waited so long) we sprayed around the intake with brakeclean(sp.) and found near the back of the pass side the idle changed. We kept spraying and hit the gas, the reved closer to normal. Great discovery.
Well, i had to travel out of town for work, and my somtimes lazy wrench decided that he didn't want a shop anymore. So he closed up his shop. He took my car to his house and winter came on like crazy here in Tahoe. Now we have done the tear down. The old gaskets seem a bit worn and brittle. And a few hoses are brittle and cracked. The plenum body will be disassembled tomorrow and we will check those gaskets.
Thats it in a nutshell.
I will keep all informed.
Paul

When you have a chance, I would very much like to hear more about the IM
gasket leak.
Thanks!
Ed

Hello All,
After an extended lapse from the 91 V8 running issue. (Wrench closed shop,
took my car to his house. Snowed 8+' on top of it. I was working out of
town, so no help from me. Finally the car is clear, and I am home.)
We found air leak in intake manifold. So IM gaskets are on order. Seems the
old gaskets are kinda brittle. Also discovered some old and tired vac hoses.
All will be replaced.
To a question: The brown ended knock sensor had some of the wire covering
worn off. I have a new green ended knock sensor,+- $15. The browns are
considerably more. +-$50(?) I do know that the ends seem to be
interchangeable. I have crossed them over previously. Is there a difference?
Can I just buy another green and plug in?
Thanks for all the help prior to the hiatus.
TIA,
Paul
