Ingo -
I love those encounters. In Colorado a lot of manufactures do High Altitude testing/tuning in and around Denver. Occasionally, I see a new vehicle (just months) before introduction. I have had similar conversations.
I Love my '10 TDI Jetta. I regularly get 47 to 54 MPG.(calculated) Th complexity of a hybrid is too much.
Wish the TDI powerplant had Engine Start/Stop, I have to do it manually right now. A bigger Vacuum resivoir would help extend engine off braking. Thank god they leave the electric steering active with engine off. My '07 GTI dash lights up/buzzes when I turn the engine off at speed.
Scott.Too Many VAG vehicles.

So I was fueling up for the second time today (only throw in $20 at a time
lately) and noticed a hybrid Q5 or Q7 on the other side of the pump with
manufacturer plates. 30ish guy with his wife and kid.
Struck up a conversation about the hybrid and he explains it has a 360v
battery and 4cyl 2 liter turbo (basically performance of the six and
efficiancy if the four) and he asks, "5000?"
"No, V8 5 speed"
"Ah, D1. Don't see many of those around." Ha, he knew (as an Audi/VW
engineer -- I'm guessing).
We both agreed diesels were better than hybrids :-)
