Well, this is the followup to the Unintended Acceleration thing I
wrote about the elderly woman who had the throttle stick on the
highway. I went to check out the car on Monday, fully expecting to
see melted tires/whatever, and was amazed that it was intact, and no
outside noticeable damage. I mentioned to the mechanic, that it even
looks like it would drive, and as a matter of fact, they did drive it
(after removing the stuck cruise rod) back to the shop. Anyway,
since I'd been "so nice and helpful, and would clearly give it a good
home", she left the signed off title and keys. The remainder of
their bill was around $200, so I paid that, and used a friend's AAA,
and it now sits in her driveway, as I simply have no room.
The mechanic has serviced it since 03, and the grand total of
receipts is $10K. Words like Heater Core/Blower Motor/Fuel Pump/
Axles/Brakes/Shocks/Instrument Cluster/Plug Wires/Injectors/Window
Regulators/Timing Belt/Mobil 1 20/50, jump out over the last 8 years
and just under 50K. The Instrument cluster was replaced with a used
one, so the total mileage is around 209K. The only negative was that
only the belt was replaced recently(no tensioner/etc.)
It's a '91Panther Black, and has the G60 front brakes. Both my Grey
car(not parted yet), and Seamus have intact hub assembly's that could
go on, but need a refresher on the fitment, as I recall something
about different axles, and this car has both new front axles. I
never payed attention to everyone doing the conversion, as I liked
the UFO's. Alternatly, I recall people using the Hub Shark to do the
bearings in place, and I've got a set of bearings in my "Box of Nick"
that I still haven't used, and could then just swap the calipers/
rotors. I'd love to hear your ideas. I still haven't had the chance
to pull the wheels off and see what really happened, but I did take
it for a quick test drive, and it's definatly going back on the
road......Tom
