Typically a drain a refill involves putting 4 quarts back in to ensure
proper fluid level. I'd say filtering and reusing is fine, but I'd add
another couple quarts.

Subject: [V8] Mobil 1 ATF
Hey, well I'm finishing up the timing belt job on the Lago car that
was years in the waiting, and it was a fun/learning experience as I'd
never after all these years had to mess with some of this stuff. If
I realized how easy it was to pull the bumper/front panel, I'd have
done that many times before on some of the other projects, and
probably would have been quicker/easier. Anyway, I drained out about
2 quarts of the basically unused Mobil 1 ATF from my filter/flush
about 10K ago, but it was probably '05 or so. Nobody around here
sells the Mobil 1 anymore, and since I just did the belt/Hydraulics/
brake bleed/oil change, I was probably gonna just pour this fluid
thru a coffee filter and reuse it, as I didn't want to mix something
else in with the volume of basically fresh fluid I've got going.
I've also got a gallon jug of Dex 3 that's a year old from my truck
flush, and could just throw 2 quarts of that in. Just wondering what
people are running in their tranny's/if any Dex 3 or greater are
incompatible. Not doing a flush, as the fluid is fresh/
older......Will flush it out after driving it for awhile, but wanting
to stop hemmoraging money on the car for now......Will post pics when
done....you can eat off the motor at this point it's so clean.....Tom
