I too have that favorite ratchet that has a story involving Snap-On.
I grew up in Kenosha WI and drove daily to High School past their headquarters. Being a hometown company everybody had Snap-On tools.
I often put too much torque on my ratchets, and do not worry about it because of the warranty. So, I had 6 different ratchets that needed to be rebuilt. I contacted my local S-O truck driver and he did not want to give em the time of day, because i did not buy them from him.
Good tools, High prices, but Poor customer service.
I proceeded to write a letter about the repairs I wanted completed and itemized the contents of the package (on recommendation of the S-O truck driver ).
About 3 months pass and the package tracking shows it was delivered 6 days after I shipped it. So I call their Customer Service line to inquire about my tool repair. I file the complaint and the woman initiated a search for my tools. 2 more weeks pass and nothing. I call again and escalate the issue further. Another week passed and nothing. So, I ask for the office of the CEO. I leave the secretary the details and the next day the call comes, saying we will replace all your tools, we lost your package.
They had no idea what I sent them so I tried to match up the tools as best I could remember.
The finally shipped all the replacements within a week.
The real rub: The 3/8" stubby ratchet I sent them has a Ball End on it, which fit real nice in your palm. The replacement ratchet has a Bell End.
I am reminded of the bad Snap-On experince everytime the Bell end of that ratchet digs into my palm.
