Hey Mark, while it's not on the upper part of the left, the oil pump
bearing is something that usually doesn't EVER get replaced in the TB
service. My Lago car had the "complete" 2nd belt job done by the
Dealer before I got the car(57K or so and the prior owner's request
to do "whatever it needs"), and the oil pump bearing wasn't on the
list. 57K, why would it be? Many will agree that it should be done
every other change. Anyway, about 20K into it, I started hearing
what's been described as a "ball bearings rolling around in a tin
can" sound, which with a stethescope put's my noise down low at the
bottom of the left (facing the car) side cover(oil pump)....and this
was at 80K or so! When I finally get around to doing the belt,
that and the viscous fan clutch bearing(same bearing
supposedly....Dealer only unless someone know's different,) will get
replaced, and I'm hoping that the sound goes away(other's have
described the bad oil bearing as the tin can thing). Last check they
were about $115 each......Anyway, it's down low, so if your
stethescope tells you it's up above...? I'd certainly go with Ed's
idea and rule out the wimpy little plastic serpentine rollers/etc.
first...Keep posted.....Tom
