Wise words.

Grabbing the pulley with any sort of wrench is very likely to crush it to the point that it is no longer round or will have sharp edges where your wrench slips - and it will slip.

It is too easy to either make one or buy one.  Most cars use a similar setup and tools are easy to find.  For the nut, I just used a cheap open end wrench I got at a used tool store.  I am pretty sure there is even a inch size that is close enough.

On the bearing price - it was crazy - but several years ago I recall it being closer to $100.  It is not a good sign if it is in fact now $400. Black Forrest elves  must have a good union...
