The thread is indeed left-handed. Also, regarding holding the pulley
- use a pin wrench and make your life easier... The manual specifies
Matra 3212 (they have 5mm pins) - there are plenty of similar ones to
be had for under 25$. Well worth it to do the job right and easy.
One could even be fabricated in a few minutes.
The fan side is 32mm. You can go to Harbor Freight, buy a 32mm, and
grind it narrow enough. Special tool 3312 is what is specified.
My fan bearing was growling like no one's business - I'm amazed it was
still spinning. And, if you can refurb the bearing (as suggested by
others) or as someone else suggested, using the same bearing as the
oil pump mandrel, go for it. The dealer cost of the actual fan
bearing is something literally insane - I believe it was $400
(seriously).

> - I think what others are refering to is that the fan is probably not bad - the bearing that the pulley rides in may be. They are separate - I have had good luck, dissasembling the bearing, cleaning, reassembling the bearing with a good synthetic grease. This is only if the bearing is still in good shape just dry or dirty, but not worn.
