Like Eric, I too have an issue with the wipers on my '91 V8 not "parking"
properly. When turned off, they will stay about 1/3 to 1/2 way up on the
windshield and not down where they belong in the fully "parked" position.
They were working fine and then all of a sudden one day started doing this.
It fixed itself once for a day or two, and then failed again and has been
that way since.
I have replaced both the motor and the relay to no avail. Funny, the
"experts" at the dealer recommended replacing both these parts, but that
wasn't it. Maybe I should have just paid them to fix it, so they could have
eaten their come-back and finally fixed it right once and for all. Chances
are though that they would have just given up and said it couldn't be fixed.
Anyway, I don't think the switch in the steering column could be at fault,
but I'd have to study the schematic to try to figure that one out for sure.
The problem is that the schematic doesn't show the internal workings of the
relay, which is more like a module, as it controls the intermittant delay
process.
Interestingly, the motor has sliding contacts in it, so I thought this was a
plausible cause. After changing out the motor with a known-good one to no
avail, I opened up the cover on the motor, only to find that all was well
with the contacts, so I cleaned and re-greased them and then put it all back
together to continue on. I've actually thought about posting this question
on the forum, but just never got around to it, so now that another poster is
running into similar issues I thought I give it a whirl.
Anyone have any ideas?
