Don't write the trunk light off yet. I had a similar drain in the V8Q
which was driving me crazy. One day after a snow storm I noticed an area
under the 3rd brake light which was snow free. The trunk light had
warmed it up enough to keep it snow free. The switch was very
intermittent, and the slightest movement would trigger it. The damn
light was off every time I went to check the draw, I suspect opening the
door and getting in was enough to trigger the precariously balanced
contacts of the switch.
Occasionally, before doing anything else, pop open the trunk and feel the
bulb, you might catch the gremlin this way.
FWIW, All the later (1989 and up) type 44's I've had would draw enough
current to kill the battery after two or three weeks of inactivity. I
picked up a couple of those solar tenders mentioned earlier in this
thread, Amazon has a 2 pack for $34, they were delivered today so no BTDT
yet, but they look like quality units.
BCNU,
Don't ever take a fence down until you know the reason it was put up.
