[V8] Dimming dash lights, alternator light and cat light

Once the car cam to stop, it was not able to be re-started. The radio would not work, no crank/no start. 
The Alternater was the first thing that came to mind. 
As for the smoke, I agree with you. I need to remove the covers and poke around to see what I find. 

Last week, I had a 2000 Audi A6 2.8Q with no low beam head lights, wipers, blower motor fan, and turn signals. 
The problem was a burned wire/connector at the ignition switch. 
Replaced the ignition switch and the burned wire and all good after that.
