[V8] A V8 in my future?

YOU WISH! ;)

These days the only cars I work on are my own and a couple of friends.
Most of my time is spent behind the wheel of a Freightliner Classic XL
sporting a heavily massaged (~ 650hp/2200lbft) 12.7ltr Detroit and 13 spds toting
freight around the country. Yeah I know, even my work vehicle can't be run
of the mill. :)

For the record, the C4 was available with both a 3.6 and a 4.2 in Europe.
The required parts are certainly available for a bolt in swap.

Well, now that we all know where Keith is, and that his renowned enthusiasm
and expertise for Audi V8's remains alive and well, I have found myself
pondering my wife's 100CS Avant. It is now getting closer to 160K, and is
running just as strong as ever. BUT

As with all stories about Audis, there is always a "but" factor, don't you
agree? I mean how many times have we seen Audi V8's for sale in near
perfect condition only to find on closer examination there were the
"little"
issues of...well brake wobble from tired UFO's, or perhaps the rear window
defroster that didn't work, or most often, the sagging headliner with the
added comment "that they all do that"?

Yes, the dear 100CS is really ready for exterior refurbishing, and a good
thorough inside cleaning. At that point the tailgate finishing pieces will
need to be reinstalled once I get around to fashioning a new rear window
washer thingy....that's good for a grand total of somewhere in the four or
five grand range.

But the engine is developing leaks. It has more than a few now, none by
itself is unusual or serious, but there are more than one or two. What is
really needed is to first do an engine compression leak-down test, and then
if as strong as I would like to think it is, merely pull the engine and
completely reseal it. Well, maybe while we're in there, do the valves,
too....another three grand, I suppose.

But I have been indulging in this fantasy since Keith resurfaced, and
wondered how a 3.6 litre V8 would work, instead of merely resealing the 2.8
V6? Surely it would make it a much nicer car, doncha think?

Roger

P.S. My wife has emphatically informed me that she does not need any more
cylinders than her car presently has. I wonder how fast Keith is? D'ya
think she'd ever notice?
