[V8] replacing wheels

I've played with lots of different tires and wheels on my cars, most OEM.

I have A6-4.2 winter wheels, 16x8 et35 with the original tires that came on
them from the factory, Dunlop SP5000 235/50-16 (a size no longer available).
These tires are just about down to the wear bars, but not yet and treadwear
is even. I have them on the 93 V8 right now and am about to take them off
because they tramline.

I have some '04 A4 17x7.5 5-spoke wheels with some Kumho 225/50-17 tires
that I will be putting on instead and the last time I had them on I don't
recall that much tramlining.

Last summer I had urS6 16x7.5 et37 wheels with Yokohama YK520 (420?)
225/50-16 tires and 10mm spacers on the 93 V8 and it drove really nicely.

My Avant has the same urs6 wheels with Kumho 711 225/50-16 tires, no
spacers, and a bad inner tie rod bushing and it wants to follow stuff but
not too bad.

I think the 235s with less tread depth makes the tramlining feel much more
pronounced than the 225s with more tread depth, especially on the Yoko's
that don't have quite as decided pronounced straight grooves that go around
the full diameter of the tread design.

Winter tires tend to be completely devoid of any tramlining and quite
comfortable, making going to nicer summer wheels a bit of a disappointment,
actually, hence my trend toward less aggressive non-winter wheels, as my
driving is becoming more sedate and I haven't been on a track in a number of
years. (Is that the mother of all run-on sentences or what?)

The V8Q came with 17" Bolero wheels from the factory, just not over here. We

had 17's on our car when we bought it, and they caused no issues. They were
17X8 with 35mm offset. However, I don't like the tramlining of them, so I
swapped for 16X7's with 225/50 16's.
