[V8] Ball joint discussion...

Guys, I still subscibe to this list even though I haven't owned a V8 in quite some time now.  There is no reason for you all to be in a pissing match over something as trivial as this, and anyone proclaiming themselves as "V8 guru's" is just a joke.  FWIW, I have worked on cars behind Keith, and others through the years and have to say, there have been some pretty "qustionable" repairs that I have found and had to spend hours repairing correctly from plenty who claim to be "V8 guru's".  No one is perfect when it comes to mechanical issues, that being said, with cars as old as these are and so many cheap parts out there, Scott is spot on when he says just use a micrometer and measure the specs on parts you get now a days.  You can't assume anything anymore, especially whith more and more stuff coming from China.  And this comes from many years of working on cars that parts are VERY hard to find for (ie: older Jags, MG's, Ferrari's, etc.).  It may take a little more time, but as Scott says, it may save your's or someone elses life.  I can't imagine sending a customer out the door with the wrong ball joint in and them wrecking and killing themselves or someone else because I didn't measure first.  That, along with the lawsuits that would ensue is enough to make me want to measure several times over!
