[V8] timing belt and other horror stories

Did the timing belt on this one found a flattened (out of round) tensioner
pulley probably due to abuse on installation, the waterpump bearing was
pretty loose/bad and that was with just 50K miles on it. Got it just in time
phew.

The SS exhaust tips in this video (we make them) actually fit on the Audi V8

The driveshaft of the 928 is very similar to an inboard boat. It's about a 5
foot steel shaft with two pinch collars on either end. The engine end is a
friction fit collar, the trans end (at the rear transaxle) has a
fixed-in-place groove. The driveshaft winds up and pulls the friction fit
joint - but with memory - that is the position does not return. And it
creeps over time putting more and more pressure on the engine flywheel
flexplate. The Thrust bearing on the 928 is huge and can handle high loads,
but at very excessive loads the oil can no longer sustain the pressure and
the crank acts like a lathe on the block, chipping away metal until the
friction is so high the engine ceases to function and the block is
completely toasted. It takes miles and time (with evidence) before the point
of cease to function.
