[V8] Fuel leak/valvetrain noise/oil type

You can use a piece of hose (vacuum tubing works great) put up to, or
slightly into your ear to find a noise. A stethescope will help as well. I
don't have any lifter noise in mine, with 330k, and on occasion sitting for
a year or more. They have a much better lifter design than the earlier
5cyls. Incidentaly, they drop right in, and I have them in my daily driver
4000Q :) No more tick-tick for me!!

I ran 10-30 regular oil in mine. It liked to run at about 1/4 int eh middle
of the marks. If I filled it up, it would burn the oil within 200 miles or
so, down to the 1/4 mark. Then, it will run there for 5000 miles. Go figure.
When I first got it, I tried to keep it full all the time. Then Keith said
something about the marks being too high. Followed his advice, and that's
when I figured out the 1/4 past minimum mark was perfect for that one.

BTW, mine is a Pearl/Grey '91 3.6 Auto, mostly original, and mostly worn out
(Except for the engine).

I'll second the ATF recommendation. Also, Rislone is a good thing to use for
quieting them down.
