[V8] the real problem

A while back I had some weird drivability issues right after I was messing
with the throttle valve and dashpot. I ASSumed I caused a problem
somewhere - but in fact it appears as though my MAF has gone TU. I am not
quite sure if the MAF starts to fail after it gets hot, or if it is always
bad and just shows up when the engine goes into closed loop mode, but
either way it runs like crap when hot right off closed throttle. It causes
severe bucking/snorting and clanking of expensive drivetrain parts but
once going seems to be OK. I had a spare MAF luckily (in fact my original
that I swapped out years ago for some reason) and it is back to running
great. So - can these be repaired? I would like to have one that is
known to be working within calibration limits.
