[V8] Idle Stabilization Valve

My '92 has/had a similar problem which compounded with a bad Hall Sender 
looked like a bad engine speed sensor. I have no VAG computer. After switching 
distributors, I mounted a new Idle valve switch and I'm almost there. This site gives

   Is it possible to twist the switch to the correct position w/o using the multi 
meter?  Bob
