Hey Mike, well if it makes you feel any better, you'll get
satisfaction when you see what comes out of there. When I recently
parted the Grey car, the last thing on the list was pull the tank
(after the rear suspension was off)....It was late, and I just took a
sharp punch and punched a hole in the low corner(car was lifted with
a backhoe). There was only a few gallons in the tank(on purpose),
but all kinds of gelatinous water and black flaky sediment came out.
Screen on the fuel pump was clean, and the motor ran fine. While it
would be nowhere near as thorough as removing the tank, that fuel
pump hole is pretty big, and if the car's on a steep/slanted hill,
one might be able to get most of the goo with a non-motorized vacuum
pump/siphon. I rigged up a Mason Jar to my MiniVac pump and use it
to drain the hydraulic reservoir/bleed brakes/clutches....It will set
up a siphon if you've got enough hose....Just an idea I had after
draining that tank. Good luck, and be safe....Sincerely, Tom
