[V8] checking transmission fluid level

On my 1990 I also have that exact same issue, when cold its a loud rattle and can be felt under the drivers seat. It is not as noticeable when warmed up. It is the Left catalytic converter. I had the the damaged "H" pipe replaced and the rattle was there immediately after. In the process of banging away to get the the old pipe out and the new one in the converter innards fell a part and are now rattling around. Go under the car while on ramps and with a cold exhaust bang on it with your fist or mallet and you will hear it.  EBay has some direct fits, it does make a difference on the side and Automatics or 5 speed, 49 state or California. It will only cost you 20 minuets of your time to check it out.

That clunking i get when accelerating from underneath my car 
 only happens when the car is first started and after its warmed up it is 
 barely noticeable.  If it were the drive shaft banging against my exhaust 
 it would do it all the time not just when cold. It literally feels like 
 something is banging on the floor board underneath my drivers seat when i 
 get on it.  Its more like a rattle. I'm thinking a pressure plate which is 
 banging around? i really don't know. Remember i had this engine put in about 
 5 months ago and the sound just recently started. I'm 
 stumped.
