I need to get a car for our family's new driver and the two '91 5-speeds in
the driveway don't match that need well. I bought #2 as a temporary driver
while I fixed #344 . 10+ years ago!
I thought I'd test the waters on interest. I have no clue on what the
market for these cars are right now. This a factory '91 5-speed, pearl
white exterior over black Barco interior. The car is in fine cosmetic
condition, but has a couple issues, which I may well correct for the right
offer.
It has perhaps the newest PT engine on earth . when the timing belt went
back in 2003 I found what I believe was an engine that was used for training
in Michigan. Even though the engine swap & clutch were done 10 years ago,
the car has not had that many miles put on it since then. I would expect
the engine to be the AT variant, but it still makes good power. The car
currently has proper blacked out Euro (Swiss) tail lights and effectively
brand new tires on the stock wheels.
The main reason the car has so few miles added to it is that I've had some
difficulty getting it to pass smog over the years. I would not recommend
anyone in California buy the car as I would expect the DMV fees to be
exorbitant . which is another big reason I'm considering selling. There's
an issue with a bearing in the right front corner, and an electrical issue
in the instrument cluster I believe is due to a bad power pin connection at
one of the 26-pin connectors. The A/C is not working well and there is
likely an issue with the clutch (AC). There's a bit of an oil leak,
probably hydraulic oil, which creates a burning oil smell when shut down (no
smoke though). The sunroof tilts but does not slide back. The Bose Delta
(stock in the '92-on) works, but the speaker amps need work.
If you are interested in talking further drop an e-mail off list to let me
know what you are looking for and a ballpark for what you are looking to
pay. For lower offers I may consider, with things like swapping wheels and
taillights . but I am pretty flexible and open.
