Don't know if you are still chasing this one, but here's what I do in this
situation. You have three legs that you have eliminated, and successfully
stopped the short circuit for the time. Get a fuse link, install it in each
of those legs with a 2.5 or 5 amp lower rated fuse. That is, 2.5 to 5 amps
lower than the existing fuse that feeds that circuit. That way, your fuse in
the link blows first. Makes troubleshooting easier.
See which leg blows the fuse when you turn the headlights on. Now you have
a spot to start looking, rather than just being stuck geussing.
Post up what you find.

P.S. I've used this before on a lot of vehicles. However, it's especially
useful on a circuit with multiple loads that has an intermittent issue. Had
one that kept blowing the fuel pump fuse about every 50 miles of driving.
Made that search much easier.
