Before you go looking at the slave cylinder, I had a similar situation
(in my driveway, not on the Tappan Zee) with my 10v200.  It turned out
a tab on the clutch pedal itself had broken off, so the pedal would
spring to the floor; You could pull it up by hand, but there was no
push on the master cylinder.

It'd be worth a quick look, as it is easy to see broken metal high up
on the pedal, near the pivot.
