Unlike the 5 cylinder engines which need the hall sender to start (ECU
needs signal to calculate where TDC#1 is) the V8Q will start without it.

When the V8Q hall signal is missing the ECU will default to a timing
retard of 20 degrees and disable the knock sensors.

I have hand written notes in my V8Q manual which indicate a 1986-1991 VW
Vanagon or '86 and up 5cyl Audi turbo hall sender kit will work. I also
have a note with a question mark next to it that says "VW GTI distributor
same guts." I have no clue where I got this info, likely from this list
long ago. I never had to use any of it as my hall sender problems were
of the broken wire variety.

It MAY be Bosch 1-237-011-066 (I am NOT sure, but it is the kit for the
above 5cyl's.) There is an auction old listing (didn't sell) on FleaBay
which has some pics, see if they match. Looks like it didn't sell, might
want to contact the guy and make an offer that won't offend but won't
break the bank if it ends up not fitting.

Check with any Bosch distributor or any of the Worldpack distributors,
they might still list it.

Again, I have ZERO BTDT with this, I'm going from notes I wrote down just
in case.

BCNU,
Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes.
