So my 1990 ignition is under-safetyengineered? Never thot I would see the day. Wonder what lawsuit prompted this design change complication.
And tell us, how did you get it out and where any shortcuts found over the book method?

It looks like you park this thing at the bottom of the ocean! How did the corrosion get so bad inside the car?

> The Shiftlock mechanism being the culprit. The lock/interlock means the shift lever annoy be moved out of park unless the key is in the lock and turned. The key cannot then be removed unless the shift lever is returned to Park. For the steering lock, Its the extra assembly on the top, which connects to the steel cable linking to the shift lever. It comprises of a lever which attaches to the interlock cable, a small plunger with spring which should help the lever return to the unlocked position, and the cable retaining bracket. There is also a hole that gives access to the plunger from the front- so they anticipated all of this in the design.

Corrosion in the assembly, combined with dried up white grease, dirt, and grime, was impinging the plunger.A good clean up, some penetrating oil, and a little mallet action, and it's learnt it's lesson.
