The dealer here refused to work on V8's(or anything of that era)
about 8-9 yrs ago. Even the older techs are too young. I asked if
they'd do a tuneup on a 68 bug(not that I have one anymore), but they
said no as nobody there was familiar with those....HA. Good thing I
know how to tuneup my lawnmower. I'd either take it to a good indy
that's excited about doing it, or a good tranny shop that's done Audi/
BMW/etc. Good luck, that's bound to be costly, but if you love the
car, it's still cheaper than buying something newer, and since it's
already determined that there's no market, and all one can hope for
is $1000(or less in my experience) to part out, then what do you do?
I'd personally verify where the actual leak is before bringing it
anywhere.....You said "a seal".......Since the cooler lines are under
pressure, and you've already had to replace rusted out fuel lines,
might just be the cooler lines(unless someone's already told you it's
main seal which will require removal, otherwise, you might just be
leaking out of a rusted out cooler line/axle/overfilled and coming
out vent......Every V8 auto I've had/seen weeped a little out of main
seal/one parts car hemmoraged out of main. Verify where the leak is
before spending what could be a lot of money. One of the parts cars
hemmoraged fluid out of one axle, and it threw oil everythere, making
it hard to tell where it was coming from, but that's an easy fix.
Lot's of stuff to leak that don't require tranny removal......Good
luck, Tom
