Hey Mike, hey at least give it a try....I siphoned out almost all of
the tank in Black car thru the fuel pump access(while doing pump),
and any water/goo I saw was down in the sump where the pump
lives....I used the old school suck method that really did suck as it
took 3-4 tries and got some vapor in lungs...Harbor Freight sells
some helpful stuff for removing fuel from tanks. There was also a
bunch of rust/stuff under the pump, that I was able to suck out using
a Mitivac hand vacuum pump hooked up to a mason jar.
Not sure what's actually stripped on your filter, but I'm guessing
someone reefed on it and pulled the threads out of the filter which
is aluminum, and even that orange OEM one I removed from Lago @ 52K
was aluminum. Never seen a steel filter, unless you mean
stainless, and maybe the oem one's were stainless, but every filter
I've ever put in was aluminum. The tank to filter hose and vent hose
are pinned between top of tank/body if I'm not mistaken, and you can
just loosen tank to get it to move back up. I replaced the vent line
on Lago years ago by just loosening tank, not removing. If needed,
I've got the fuel line in a box somewhere if it comes to that......
If your belt looks fine, I personally wouldn't worry about it
immediatly, if it's not cracked. I can assure you that if I knew
there were only 20 miles on a 7 yr belt, I wouldn't even consider
changing it without driving it a bit. I drove a parts car around
that had twice that and mileage, and since it wasn't cracked, felt
ok.....With a complete belt job, I wouldn't even worry.
Since all my cars have been 90 or 91 which have a 2 post fuel pump,
if I"m not mistaken, the later cars had a "t" shaped electrical
connector. My friend's son (black car)has an extra brand new pump
from partsgeek that was for the "t" shaped connector(think 040/044
from memory, but memory isn't what it used to be).....Anyway, if you/
anyone needs a brand new pump that uses that T shaped connector he's
still got it as I found one that had the 2 posts. Just throwing that
out there, since you might be in that neighborhood here soon, and you
said you've got a new pump$$$$$$$, this was a Bosch and was something
like $150.....make offer if your's is the other/anyone out there need
the T connector model......Good luck and don't mess with the
injectors unless you have to....Tom
